About

I don´t dream up explanations for my paintings…

it´s just me thinking pictures

I live between Javea, Spain and England. I spend the summer living on my boat in Norwich; or in Harrogate, near my beloved Yorkshire Dales.

My student years were at Bradford College of Art and the University of Sheffield. I taught art at a school for the deaf, then lectured on the B.Ed at the Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic, teaching painting and drawing, and exhibiting regularly. My family and I moved to St John, New Brunswick in Canada where I introduced life art lessons to the horror of some! I returned to Yorkshire, and taught at Jacob Kramer College, then finally at Leeds College of Art, where I stayed for nearly 20 years. During this time I created an Interior Design BA (Hons) degree and travelled the world encouraging students to study at Leeds.

It is this travel, along with my years in Yorkshire and Javea that are the inspiration for most of my work. I use some visual anchors, but my paintings are transformational; altering line and colour. Memory and imagination are my primary drivers.

These days, I work in my studio in the garden. It´s a studio I built myself, 12 blocks a day.
